Savory n Sweets is a fresh, home spun catering service, specializing in breakfast, luncheons, brunch and dinners for all occasions. The vintage vibe that creates a  comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, whether hosting in the office or on your home patio.

Our beautiful shop in Redondo Beach has closed...we are moving to the Pacific Northwest, specifically the Portland, Oregon area. We will be reopening a small location there. In the meantime, we are still taking on catering requests. So please give us a call for your event needs.

Sunshine and Lemons

February so far has brought some interesting weather to California, especially to us living in the beach cities. The other day we had hail! Hail....that is something we just don't see in the beach cities. We have had a lot of rain with some chilling winds. Which is actually a nice change. However, the next day is full of sunshine. The weather have been so drastic it makes us wonder.  Do we make comfort food or do we make something that says sunshine? Well we say something that says S U N S H I N E!  Around this time of year we begin to see Meyer Lemons. Especially in specialty type shops like Whole Foods.  So we grabbed some and tried out the following recipe. Give it a whirl...we think you'll find the sun beaming through those windows. Hey, and since these are baked you may still get a little comfort out of them too. ENJOY!

Glazed Lemon Cookies

2 Cups flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 Tablespoon finely grated lemon zest, plus 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, room temperature

1 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt and lemon zest.  In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter and granulated sugar until it is light and fluffy.  Add egg, vanilla and lemon juice and beat until combined.

Drop by heaping tablespoons, 1 inch apart onto two baking sheets.  Bake until edges are golden, 15-20 minutes. Let cool a couple of minutes, then transfer to cooling rack.  Spread cookies with lemon glaze and let sit for 1 hour.
